After more than two years of VicParks advocacy, I am pleased to advise that almost all caravan park members will receive a one-off twelve month extension to their park registration.
VicParks has been working with the Victorian Government for two years to secure this outcome which was, and remains, designed to provide relief from the impact of COVID-19. While the agreement to extend registrations by twelve months was supported by the relevant minister late last year, the arduous government process to amend the Regulations has only just concluded.
In late 2020, we sought registration relief for members who had been operating at a significantly reduced capacity under the ‘stay at home’ COVID-19 restrictions for much of that year. This outcome supports that request across 2020 and 2021 by delaying the obligation to apply for a registration renewal. In effect, members receive twelve months free park registration.
The instrument to enforce this outcome is the Residential Tenancies (Caravan Parks and Movable Dwellings Registration and Standards) Amendment Regulations 2022.
Members who have been continuously registered for the period 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021, and were registered on 25 October 2022, are eligible for this registration extension and will have their registration period extended to expire on 31 December of the calendar year that is four years after the year the registration took effect.
The government has corresponded with all councils alerting them of this regulatory change and advised that it is their responsibility to implement this extension. Each council will contact caravan park owners directly. You do not have to apply for this extension.
Albeit some time after the major impact of the pandemic has been felt, we are pleased to have achieved another financial support outcome to members.
