Aboriginal Public Health

The EHPA Aboriginal Public Health Working Group is committed to improving knowledge and understanding of factors affecting Aboriginal Public Health through:

  • Enhancing levels of awareness among public health professionals of issues facing the Aboriginal population
  • The development of resources and guidelines to assist public health professionals in engaging with their local Aboriginal communities
  • The establishment and strengthening of partnerships with key stakeholders and providing representation on working groups addressing Aboriginal health
  • Advocating for improved health outcomes for Aboriginal communities at various levels of government

Members of the Aboriginal Public Health Working Group represent a cross-section of municipalities in Victoria.

Emergency Management

The EHPA Emergency Management Special Interest Group is committed to improving knowledge and understanding of Public Health Emergency Management in Victoria through:

  • Delivery of an accredited emergency management training course to Public Health Professionals and others within the field of Public Health Emergency Management
  • Promoting an active and influential role within relevant committees of Emergency Management agencies
  • Improvement of emergency management standards through the development of resources and guidelines

Members of the Emergency Management SIG represent a cross-section of municipalities in Victoria.

Environment

The EHPA Environment Special Interest Group is committed to promoting environmental awareness and improvements on the environment in Victoria through:

  • Promotion of best practice in environmental management
  • Reviewing the current policy for the management of on-site domestic wastewater
  • Identification of avenues to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders including providing representation on various committees
  • Lobbying Government to improve the effectiveness of tools available to public health professionals to resolve issues impacting on the environment.

The Environment SIG addresses issues such as pursuing best practice in domestic wastewater management, improving the quality of recreational water and improving stormwater management.  Members of the Environment SIG represent a cross-section of municipalities across Victoria.

Food Safety & Security

The EHPA Food Special Interest Group is committed to improving the food safety regulating system in Victoria through:

  • Facilitating a coordinated approach to food safety in local government
  • Responding appropriately to emerging issues
  • Providing professional development
  • Assisting members in employing strategies and efficient practices associated with the key aspects of food safety management
  • Provide clarity in legislation and best practice through recommended policy and procedures
  • Provide guidance to members in consistency in decision making and law enforcement
  • Representing EHPA on key forums when opportunities arise

The members of the Food SIG represent a cross-section of key stakeholders within the food regulating system including Local Government, Department of Health & Human Services, Dairy Food Safe Victoria, legal practitioners, analysts and private industry.

Public Health & Wellbeing

The EHPA Public Health and Wellbeing Special Interest Group is committed to improving knowledge and understanding of Public Health and Wellbeing regulation in Victoria through:

  • The development of  professional practice tools and guidance notes on various aspects of Public Health and Wellbeing for public health practitioners
  • Providing an active and influential role by liaising with and engaging relevant government agencies on Public Health and Wellbeing policy
  • Providing opportunities for public health professionals to network and converse on areas of interest relating to Public Health and Wellbeing

The Public Health and Wellbeing SIG addresses issues such as rooming houses, assessment and determination of nuisances and registration of prescribed businesses.  Members of the Public Health and Wellbeing SIG represent a cross-section of municipalities across Victoria.

Student & New Graduate

The EHPA Student and New Graduate Special Interest Group is committed to improving the capacity and opportunities for students and graduates in Environmental Health by:

  • Providing an online forum for students and graduates to share information and ideas on environmental health issues
  • Providing a resource library for students and new graduates to improve the level of awareness of environmental health issues facing the profession
  • Providing a mechanism where students and prospective employers can be brought together to facilitate student placements and employment opportunities.

Members of the Student and New Graduate SIG are comprised of local government, private industry and educational institutions.
